Malegra 50 mg is commonly marketed as containing sildenafil 50 mg, a phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by improving blood flow to the penis when sexual stimulation occurs. During arousal, nitric oxide activates the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which relaxes penile smooth muscle and increases blood flow. Sildenafil inhibits PDE5, an enzyme that breaks down cGMP, helping support an erection. Importantly, Malegra does not directly increase sexual desire and cannot produce an erection without sexual stimulation.
